28 Great: 2800 E. Lake Street project

Great hope

2800 E. Lake Street is getting a 2nd chance for a hopeful, healing 2nd act. What was once a place of bustling activity, featuring a U.S. Bank branch, changed in 2020 with the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. Thankfully, U.S. Bank decided not to reopen. Instead, they donated their 2.4 acre space for redemptive redevelopment. Re+4RM was awarded the opportunity and today, we are looking to create a vibrant new place of multi-family housing, commercial and retail businesses, community services and green joy. Our plan includes a healing community park and an innovative aquifer thermal energy storage system (ATES). Initial participants include Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES) and National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS).

Great collaboration

Many community organizations have been identified to help move this project forward but that’s not all. We are holding several community events to learn people’s hopes and dreams for their neighborhood.

Join us at one of our community events at 2800 E. Lake Street:

Saturday, August 19 from Noon – 4:00pm
Saturday, September 16 from 11:00am – 3:00pm
Saturday, October 14 from 11:00am – 3:00pm

Great partnership

Re+4RM is a partnership between Redesign, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit community development corporation and 4RM+ULA, an award-winning architectural firm. Together, we are committed to rebuilding neighborhoods with inclusive action and transformative triumph.
